Tips for Raising Money
1. Aim high. Make sure to set a fundraising goal. Fundraising works best when you have a specific amount in mind and you can track your progress toward your goal.
2. Enthusiasm is contagious! If you are excited about your project, others will be too. Whether you are recruiting group members or donors, people will notice your passion.
3. Make the ask. The hardest part about fundraising is asking for money. Asking may make you uncomfortable or nervous, but usually people will respond well. Keep your cause in mind and don't be afraid to ask. Chances are that people will be excited to help! And always be polite, even if people can't help.
4. Be creative. When it comes to fundraising, no idea is too silly or strange. The best fundraisers come from original ideas that relate specifically to your situation. Have fun with your fundraising and don't be afraid to stray from traditional fundraising tactics.
Ideas for Fundraisers
Candy Sale: Sell lollipops or candy bars. Most candy companies sell fundraising cases. Stand or table in the busiest area of your school and the buyers will come to you.
Benefit Dinner: Host a benefit dinner or ask restaurants to donate a portion of their proceeds from one night to your sister school. Invite a speaker, local band, or entertainer to your event.
Bake Sale: Make or donate baked goods (brownies, cookies, etc.) for a weekly bake sale. Charge $1 to $2 for each baked good.
Late Night Food Sale: On college campuses, students will want to buy food such as pizza or cookies late at night. Have a late night food sale. Make sure to obtain a permit, if needed.
Special Sporting Event: Hold a special basketball game or other sporting event. Possible teams include local police, students, faculty, etc. Ticket sale proceeds can go to your sister school.
Penny Drive: Start a penny drive by pitting classes against each other for a prize. Each class gets a jar, and at the end of the drive, the class with the most points wins. Coins are positive points, bills are negative.
Silent Auction or Raffle: Set up a silent auction or raffle at your school. Place items (paintings, gift certificates, etc.) out and place a list next to each. Have people sign the sheet with their 'bid'. Whoever bids the most gets the item and you collect the cash.
Car Wash: Get a small group to stand outside a local gas station, your school, or auto parts store and wash cars. You will have fun and make money.
Benefit Concert: Ask a few local bands to play at a fun venue in your area. Charge $5 for admission.
Dance-off: Have a dance competition and charge people to have fun dancing or watching.
